Ready for some progress

As you may know, I've had nothing but problems with my computer. Crash after crash has made me lose data and an incredible amount of patience, and worst of all, it has made it extremely difficult to actually get any writing done. Even though I've attempted to write and have had a few days of luck with writing down some of these storylines swirling around in my head, the fact that I never know when my computer is going to crash again has made it more than difficult to keep up the writing.

Well, I'm so happy to say that after my most recent computer crash a few days ago, my husband and I decided it was time to give up on that computer and go get a new one. I still need to see if I can rescue any of my most recent progress that I'd achieved before this last crash, but with any luck, I will have some confidence in this new computer and I'll actually get some writing done. I've got a Guardians book, a Legions book, and a new project that are all ready and waiting patiently for me to write them. Guess I'd better get crackin'!

Coming Soon to Print, baby!

I have been a super good girl today. I have worked tirelessly at editing, making some important changes to the third book in the Immortal Guardians series, and I'm well on my way to finishing it up!

Anyhoo, imagine my surprise when I stop working for the night and decide to go check out what's going on at Evernight Publishing's site, when I spot that Dark Seduction is coming soon to print!

O - M - G!

I am so stoked, you have no idea! Being published is such an awesome experience, but I can't even tell you how thrilled I am that my book is going to be printed. Holding that in my hands, smelling the paper and ink... *sigh

I can't wait!

Editing

The last few months have been crazy! There is a lot going on in my life and my writing has really suffered. Thankfully I was able to write the ending of the third Immortal Guardians novel, so now I'm re-editing the rest of the book. I haven't decided when I'm going to submit it for publishing; I may start the fourth one first, or I might even work on one of my other WIPs. I never know when a Guardian is going to throw new information at me, and I don't want to miss anything before submitting (or publishing) it.

I did try to edit last night, but it was short-lived since I was already starting to get a headache (which turned into a stupid migraine - grrrr), and I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to again. The next few nights I'm going to spend time hanging out with my sweetheart since he's off work.

One thing that has really gotten me excited about writing again is getting fan mail. It's surreal, hearing from people who've read something you wrote and they actually liked (or loved) it! I still can't believe it, and I very much enjoy hearing what people think, and hearing about their favorite characters or even their favorite parts. So if anyone wants to write me, simply go to my site (katalynsage.com) and fill out the form to the left, I'll get an email from you personally. Or if you want to leave a comment, I'll see that too.

Hopefully I can keep it up so I can deliver more Guardians to my fans!

A Slacker at her best

At least, that's sort of how I feel. Usually I get a lot of writing done when my wondermous hubby has to work. Well, this weekend I'm spendig cleaning because my house is a complete wreck.

Hopefully I can squeeze in some writing time though because I've got a couple people who are dying to read the 3rd novel in the series, and I'm seriously motivated to write the story.

Not too shabby, I guess

Well, I've been keeping pretty busy. I ended up setting my new series aside so that I could work on another book in the Guardians series, and I'm proud to say that I'm a 1/4 of the way done with it (as far as my word count goal is concerned). Some days, I'm able to knock out around 5,000 words in the novel, others are considerably lower or non-existent. I think that's because I'm forcing it, and its wearing me out.

Or maybe the Guardians are actually trying to slow me down now that I'm focusing all my attention on them. That would be weird, but they are usually the ones who get me to do what they want, so maybe they're trying to get me to slow down, LOL.

Anyway, I'm hoping to knock out a few more thousand words today. I doubt I'll reach the point of 1/3 of the way through, but maybe I can get there before the weekend.

Pitching

On the heel of my last post, I figured I'd talk about my pitch at the conference. I originally intended on pitching my first Immortal Guardians book, Dark Seduction, but after a few suggestions from other people, decided to pitch the second one - and yes, I'm about to finally tell you the title - Seduction Ignited.

Let's just say, I learned a lesson.

If your first novel in a series hasn't been published, then that is really the only one you should be pitching.

The editor that I pitched to yesterday stopped me about a minute into my pitch (embaaarrrraaasssssiiiinnng), and told me to pitch the first one. So, I stopped, switched the focus of my mind, and pitched Dark Seduction. I'm still trying to decide if maybe this was a blessing in disguise, because normally, if I'd just pitched the first one in the series, then she likely wouldn't have known about the second.

Why is this important you ask?

Well, you see, because she was at least aware that a 2nd one existed (and it came up that there are several more on the way), she asked for partials on BOTH novels! Now, I'm not saying that it will go anywhere. It's hard to assume anything when there is a 95% rejection rate, but I can say that I'm excited that she was interested not only my novel(s), but the series.

I can only hope, at this point, that she enjoys my writing style and loves the Immortal Guardians every bit as much as I do.

Oh no. . . Not again

So, I started writing another new book today. WHY CAN'T I STOP STARTING NEW PROJECTS??
I'm going to drive myself mad!
Really, there just needs to be more hours in the day so that I can somehow write an entire book every single week so that I can keep up with all the characters that are yammering on inside my head.
/Sigh

Now I need to spend equal time between three projects... How in the world am I going to pull this off?

I went for it

I decided that I would go for it. I spent a little time yesterday researching editors and found on that I decided was worth a shot. I sent my first five pages to her so that I can see a sample of her work. Of course, sending this to her immediately made my stomach flip-flip and I'm feeling nervous and excited about it.

For anyone who knows me, they know I'm a worry wart. What if she thinks my writing sucks? What if the storyline is boring to her (which I don't have to worry about yet since its just the first five pages--which I have to like quite a bit)? What if (if we decide to have her do the whole novel) her quote is too high and I can't afford to have her edit it? On the flip side, what if she really likes my work? What if we turn out to be an amazing team? What if she likes it so much that she wants to see Raider's book?

I already have an incredible critique group, and their feedback has been invaluable... which reminds me, I need to send them my 2nd book... But I still can't get over the nervousness that sending a piece of my work off has created.

That coupled with the fact that I'm still waiting to hear back on the writer's contest has got me (literally) biting my nails and my lips.

I'm going crazy, and feeling sick while doing it.

Can we say 70,000 words?!?!

Yep, I just passed 70,000 words in Raider's book, I am so close to finishing this one that its crazy, and I'm still actually writing the end. Likely as soon as I'm done writing, I'll go back through and edit it a few times, but the point is, I'm almost done with his book, which means there is (hopefully) one less voice in my head, which also means one less Immortal Guardian in my head.

Grins all around, its a good day!

Attention? Not sure I have attention span left...

I've been a slacker with keeping up on my blogs. Oh, and with writing...

My hubby and I just celebrated our 10 year anniversary, and I've found myself getting extremely distracted. I made myself find time today, and I sat down and edited Draven's book for four hours. Now, I'm going to try to work on Raider's. But why, oh why does the swimming pool have to look so tempting outside the window?

Anyone who knows me personally knows that my mind never sleeps. During all hours of the day, I'll be working on projects, but my mind is also going through the stories that I still need to write (or the one's I've written). At night, when I try to sleep, my mind does the same thing. I feel like I'll never get rest until I actually get these suckers down. Which leads me to my next comment.

My other series is pushing to the forefront. I'll be thinking of my Guardian series, and my other one will make an appearance. I only wish there were enough hours in the day to get everything down.

Character Profiles

I thought it might be fun to add the information that I collect on each character in my books. A few of these may sound a little funny, but keep in mind that I write Paranormal Romance.

When new characters pop into my head, whether or not they are in the book I'm currently writing, I fill in as much of these details as I can. Not only does this help when you need to remember details in future work, but it also helps expand on the character as needed.

Name: (obvious)

Type: (this is in here because I love Paranormal Romance. If they are "other" then what are they exactly?)

Mate: (Yep, who do they end up with and when?)

Good or bad: In every story there is an element of good and an element of evil (whether intentional or not), so I try to make a note of if they are on the good side of things or the bad. Even if they change somewhere, you'll want to know when they toppled on the other side of that fence).

Hair length and color: (Obviously these things can change, but if you do change them throughout your books, its good to keep a log so that you remember what happened. If you ever have a flashback in a future book, don't you want to have this info at your fingertips?)

Height: (This helps. Especially with the type of books I write. Most of my boys are ginormous).

Build: (Ah yes, the build. Is he scrum-didilly? Is he just average right now - but in a future book he is yummy (if ever)? Does he have broad shoulders? Does he have that oh-so-hot V-shape? Put WHATEVER you want in this field).

Eyes: (This can be as descriptive as you want. Color, size, are they nice eyes? Evil Eyes? Do they do anything cool? If you read my book you'll know why I say that).

Physical Markings: (This can be anything from tattoo to scars to demonic markings - and everything in between. This helps because you never want to screw up the placement of something throughout your books).

Attitude: (This one can be totally fun to play with. Especially if you already know their history. You just write up how they act. And then, in a future book, if their attitude begins to change, you'll make notations here so that you're up to date on everything).

Age: (obvious. Even if you don't ever say specifically how old someone is, you never know when it will be brought up.)

Born (year): (Trust me, this helps. Especially if you're planning on writing a series. You don't want someone getting younger-- unless they are "other.")

Born (location): (Yes, this can help, but its not a must. I've found that this can help with their history, such as: if they don't live there anymore, why? [more info could be filled in in the History field below}).

Speech/accent: (This one helps if you're planning on them being bi-lingual).

Family/heritage: (This one can be helpful, not only because of names, but sometimes a little bit of their history comes out in this field).

Abilities: (Again, here is one that is probably most used when your characters are "other." But it could be used if you have a plain old human, too.

History: (This is a BIG one. Sometimes you develop your characters' attitudes based on what they've told--or showed-- you they've been through - I know it sounds funny to say that, but really, most of the time your characters will tell you instead of you telling them).

Other: (Whatever floats your boat. Anything important that will help you.)

Anywhoo, that's pretty much what I fill in on my characters. Really, if you know the information that is in these fields then you are pretty much good to go.
